WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give a guaranteed boost to certain stats. Each upgrade increases the level of an Item level Upgrade by +3. A random additional substat is also added to each upgrade.

Upgraded gear is generally more valuable, unless the item has a low requirement by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a large variance in stats (like eth Titan weapons). The latter are less valuable from upgrading due to the necessity to roll for a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by transferring the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied on any type of weapon or armor. However, the item that is used for the upgrade will be consumed for the duration of time and will not be able to be used again. Upgrades can be used to create enchantments.

The upgrader can be found in every major city, and can be visited anytime to upgrade your equipment. To keep your gear up-to-date it is recommended that you visit the upgrader each couple of weeks.

Upgrades will cost more depending on the level of the item upgrading but they will always be less expensive than purchasing new gear. For example, upgrading a chest piece from Benthic to ilvl 385 will cost 20 recycle points purchasing a similar piece from another player will costs 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are useful items which can be used to level up weapons and tools, armor and accessories. They can be purchased by players through NPCs who sell upgrades for items in exchange for different currencies, and can be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade items is purchased it can be used on any weapon, tool, or armor using the help of button, which will display an image of the item upgrading at its next upgrade level in the event that the player has enough materials.

The upgrade cost depends on the item slot and the current level of the item as well as the level of the weapon, which is more than bracers or gloves, for example. Each step costs 15 Flightstones and a variety of crests, with certain upgrades having a discount to lower the cost of Flightstones or crests that are used. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain degree it is able to be degraded and sold back to the upgrader for a lesser amount of both currencies.

Many locations have upgraders for their items in addition to the main island and a few outposts. The NPCs provide an upgrade discount and the chance to obtain a new upgrade recipe. The discount for upgrades increases according to the number of items being upgraded. It can also be increased by having players complete some specific achievements or complete quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an upgrader for items at the start, unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. Instead, the NPCs that are available to help with upgrades are acquired via a variety of means which is both an improvement as well as a disadvantage.

In Season 3, the upgrade system was modified a bit, and some new features added. Once a player obtains an upgrade to a certain item level for a particular armor slot, upgrading additional items to that level will cost less even when they belong to a different gear set.

The amount of Valorstones needed for upgrades is reduced, and the discount is available across all accounts. Similarly, the amount of Harbinger Crests needed to upgrade is also reduced and is not available until players reach certain milestones in their achievement.

Crests

When it comes to upgrading equipment in WoW players have a variety of choices. Flightstones are a currency that is available to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more special, and are used during specific item upgrader kit level upgrades. Crests are an important component of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System introduced in version 10.1. They are available in four ranks.

The first thing to note is that crests can only be used on equipment that is of a particular rank, and that each rank has its own requirements for upgrading. The easiest and most straightforward upgrade is 15 crests. The most complicated upgrade could require as much as 20 crests, based on the kind of equipment being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by working through tasks at the appropriate level. This could be by engaging in outdoor activities or doing dungeons or raids in any difficulty to earn lower-level gear or Mythicbosses of raids or dungeons that have a high difficulty for gear in the endgame. These crests can then be exchanged at an upgrader NPC like Cuzolth in Dornogal or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to get the appropriate upgrade paths and steps.

The use of these currencies isn't too difficult however, item level Upgrade the system will introduce a few changes to the overall upgrade process. For example, once a piece of equipment reaches the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it won't need Flightstones to be upgraded. This allows players to upgrade their gear to the highest possible level on all of their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

It's also important to use crests in a wise manner, as they have only one purpose. For instance, it's a good idea to make use of all your Whelpling-rank crests with the best gear you have available and then keep Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you're planning on making. This is especially true for items such as trinkets and rings that take up multiple slots. The discount for the entire account will only apply when all slots on the character are filled with top-quality equipment.
