Then, locate the battery hatch, and then open it with a flathead, coin, or any other similar tool. Then, carefully remove the battery out of its socket by lifting it on the side closest to the key-ring loop. Use rubber gloves to shield the electronic contact surfaces.

After the battery is removed, insert the new one into its socket. Make sure that the positive side is facing up and that it is securely seated in all of the clips. Slide the cover downwards towards the key-ring portion until it loosens and is able to slide off. Uncover the cover and reveal the hidden key blade. You can use this to unlock your car from the driver's door when you've lost or damaged your key fob.

How to Start Your Vehicle

Put a brand new battery in its spot and connect the fob.

Note: Some older Volvos use a different type of battery which is the CR2025. CR2025 batteries have an average thickness of 7 tenths millimeters less than a CR2032 So you'll need to be extra careful when replacing your battery.
