Buying a Tandem Double Buggy

A tandem double buggy could be a great option when you have twins or children who are very close in age. They're a bit smaller than side-byside buggies and ideal for navigating tight spaces such as entrances, on public transportation and on rocky terrain.

Some can be converted to travel systems that use two carrycots or child car seats. They can be heavier, longer and less stable than a single pushchair.

Convertible

If you're looking for a convertible stroller that converts from single to double or to add a second seat to an existing one, there's several options available. The Vista V2 from UPPAbaby is a large, gorgeous stroller that can easily be converted from a single stroller to double by incorporating the rumble seat (available separately). It is more expensive and less maneuverable due to the fact that the second seat is positioned on top of the first seat. Nuna Demi Grow provides a similar choice however, it doesn't have storage underneath the seat when used as a double stroller.

Other options include twin buggies with all-terrain wheels and joggers with fixed wheels that can accommodate two kids. These tend to be more expensive but they're designed to last longer on rough terrain and can have more resale value.

Independent seat recline

If you want a double stroller which can accommodate children of different ages, you will need one with a recliner that is independent for both seats. This allows your child of a higher age to sit back and relax while the baby sleeps in the bassinet, and vice versa.

Think about the width of your stroller, as this will determine how easy it is for you to maneuver through doors and public transportation. If your doors are narrow, you may think about a side by side pushchair like the Mountain Buggy Duet. There are many 3-wheeler tandems with inline wheels that offer stability and quick steering. Take a look at Phil and Teds inline models or iCandy Peach and Pear buggies. Most of them can be folded down to size one buggie, which is helpful for those who struggle with storage at home or have to transport it into and out of the car on public transportation.

Be aware that a double-wide buggy will be more heavy and more bulkier than one compact buggy. Be sure to know what you want prior to making a purchase. It is likely to be used on buses, trains and subways often, so it must be easy to use and manage. It's nevertheless an excellent choice for families who don't wish to spend a lot of money.
