Mini Key Fob Replacement

Key fobs of today do much more than simply unlock and start the vehicle. They can also control the sunroof and even the windows. And as such, they cost a lot to replace if they are damaged or lost.

It is possible to replace the fob battery yourself and save money. Here's how: Find a notch on the fob's key and then insert your tool.

Battery

Modern key fobs provide incredible features and convenience, but they require some care to ensure they continue functioning efficiently. Over time, the battery inside the key fob will run out of energy and needs to be replaced. You'll know when it's time to replace the battery if your car becomes more difficult to start or when your buttons stop working.

It's easy to change the battery inside your keyfob. First you need to place the key fob on a flat surface and press the metal button until it pops up. Find the seam that connects the lid and base of the fob. You can then use a small screwdriver with a flat blade (or sometimes, your fingernail) to push the two halves of the fob apart gently.

Then, take off the clips that hold the battery in place. If your key fob has a slot for the battery, replace it with the new one, making sure you insert it in the correct plus and the minus orientation.

You'll need a CR2032 3V coin-cell battery available in a majority of stores that sell batteries or on the internet. The battery is typically smaller than a disc with an X or minus symbol on it. Be careful when handling the battery as it could leak in the event that you contact it with dirty hands. The leak can harm the circuit board, making it less likely to work correctly in the future.

Programming

The modern car key fob does more than just unlock and begin the vehicle, it's a remote control for various systems. It can be used to adjust your seat and mirror settings and setting your radio's temperature and climate control, as well as many others adapted to the driver's preferences. You can help protect yourself by placing your key fob inside a shielded protection case (known as Faraday pouches) that limit the distance that frequencies from the fob's location. Certain systems also permit you to unlock the car without pressing an button. As you approach the door's handle the car will automatically lock and unlock when your key is on its fob.

Key fobs also offer greater control for business owners and managers they can authorize access to certain areas of your buildings to certain employees during specific shift times. You can also revoke access to a lost or fired employee with a press of a button. This is a great tool for warehouses and other structures that require greater security.
