Replacement Upvc Window Handles

Most replacement double glazed window upvc windows handles come with everything you require. However, if your old handle was held in place by pins or screws, they will need to removed. Remove the'snap-in' covers at the base of your handle.

Espag

Espag handles are a system of multipoint locks designed to fit on casement windows such as uPVC or wooden double glazing. The handle has a 7mm square shaft that fits inside a gearbox on the uPVC window. When the handle is turned it triggers a series of locks around the window's perimeter. Espag handles are also known as shootbolt handles. They provide more security than the conventional single point lock found on older frames.

They are available in a number of different styles, such as inline and cranked handle designs that can be used either left or right hand operation. You can also find ergonomic handles that improve the appearance and feel of your window as well as handles.

You'll need to determine the spindle size from the base of your uPVC handle in order to order the correct replacement. This measurement is referred to as step height and can help you find the perfect uPVC handle for your home.

Cockspur

These handles can be lockable or non-lockable. They are available in various nose heights that can be adjusted to the frame.

The handle is secured by a small triangle-shaped spur (spur) that is attached to the frame. These are usually single-way handles, but the deadlock that locks can be added to give additional security.

The replacement handles for cockspurs are simple to install. All you require is the correct backset as well as a new set (supplied). The backset is measured from the baseplate to the underside nose of the handle. Aluminium window frames are usually 9mm wide, whereas UPVC is 21mm wide. Turn and Tilt

Tilt and turn windows are a popular European window design that has been in use for a long time in Europe but is getting noticed stateside. They combine the functionality of three window styles into one - tilt, pivot, and in-swing. They are great for older homes since they are more breathable than standard windows.

When tilt and turn windows are closed, they will lock as any other fixed window. But, by turning the handle 90@ or 180@ (depending on the kind of tilt and turn window) the sash can be opened upwards and the window will be tilted into allowing air to circulate through the opening at the top of the frame. This is a great option to let air circulate without the need to open a large window which could pose a safety risk if it is not secured properly when opening.

If the handle is turned a further 90or 180 degrees, the sash can be fully opened, much like the door. This allows for full air exchange which is especially useful in rooms that are chilly or houses where odors from smoke or other sources can build up. It also makes cleaning the outside of the glass much simpler since it can be done from inside the house which usually requires ladders that are a bit shaky.

Tilt-and turn windows are also secure. When locked in a closed position, they are difficult to open from outside, and they have double seals to prevent rainwater from entering the house when they are in the tilted or in-swing position. This can be a particularly helpful feature for older homes, where intruders are more likely to target windows that are opened via the side hinges.

Spade

There are several different types of handles that are able to be fitted on upvc double-glazed windows. The two main types are Espag handles and Cockspur handles.
